Playades was originally intended as my personal investment and consulting boutique, which I founded whilst still running Xendex as CEO. Xendex lost its biggest client EA Mobile in 2018 and thereafter got winded down. I restarted doing mobile games distribution into alternative markets under Playades from then on. Today we distribute 800+ Android premium mobile games to alternative app stores globally.

Partnering with market leader EA on publishing our titles in ‘non-app store’ markets. More than 50 titles are released with EA Mobile, co-produced with various third party developers
(2012) App store disruption, studio closures, restructuring to publisher/distributor
iOS/Android platforms disrupt the traditional telecom operator game stores. We change our business model. A core team focuses on games distribution and third-party only publishing. We target niche markets outside these two app stores. Our development studios get closed
(2011) Hands-On Mobile, Taito, Sony, 70 people team
For US based Hands-On Mobile we produce ‘World Poker Tour 3’, ‘90210 Beverly Hills’, ‘iShoot’ and other mobile games. Taito publishes one of our licenses (Icy Tower) in Japan. We deal with Sony on two titles for the PSP minis launch (Yeti Sports, Red Bull). Team grows to 70 people with offices in Austria, Poland, India. Sales reps. in US, France, UK and Bulgaria
(2010) NamcoBandai, Konami, Red Bull, Porting studio in India
Building the ‘Galaga 30 years edition’ mobile game for NamcoBandai. Red Bull signs up franchises, including Red Bull X-Fighters (mobile, PC/XBLA), Red Bull BC-1 and Red Bull Motocross. Konami publishes our Red Bull PC/XBLA game. Porting studio in India
(2009) Glu Mobile, Space Invaders / EA, THQ Wireless
10 games deal with Glu Mobile. EA Mobile signs up for a remake of the classical retro game ‘Space Invaders’. Partnering with THQ Wireless in different projects and markets. Our motocross game FMX3 rakes another EUR 1m in sales, as did FMX 1 and FMX 2 each
(2008) EUR 4 mio Venture Capital / EA Mobile deal, 45 people team
First deal with EA Mobile, for an own-IP stunt car racing game. EUR 3m funding from Business Angels & an institutional VC fund. Another EUR 1m public funding from different programs. Team grows to 45 people in the Austria and Poland studios
(2007) Growing international games distribution, Coca Cola branded game
Distribution reach grows in emerging/tier-2 markets in Europe, CEE & Latin America. Dozens of developers/publishers (some renowned years later) work with us, like Handygames, Kiloo, Vivid Games, Herocraft, Living Mobile/Disney. Our studio repeats FMX market success with EUR 1m in sales for FMX2. Coca Cola branded mobile game as engagement tool
(2006) Vienna/Austria as new HQ, QPass/Amdocs for T-Mobile International
Relocating to the capital, organic growth to 20 people. Acting as game expert & consultant to QPass (later acquired by Amdocs), helping win a T-Mobile International RFP for t-zones game stores in 6 countries. ‘Telco Grade’ games QA criteria (600 test cases) written by me
(2005) I-play / Digital Bridges, sport brands Head & Generali Tennis Open
10 games studio deal signed with global publisher Digital Bridges/I-Play (later Oberon). Our first release ‘FMX’ Freestyle Motocross becomes a large success in the industry’s early days. We do mobile games for sport brands, like ‘Head Ski Cup’ and the ‘Generali Tennis Open’
(2004) Telecom operator game portals, Vodafone, Gameloft distribution
Consulting for the RFP/launch of a mobile games portal (today called app store) to Austrian operator One (later Orange, now 3 Hutchison). Providing also our own games and 3rd party titles. Distributing Gameloft games in the Austrian market. A1 Vodafone games manager states ‘Gameloft plus Xendex are the only two quality games developers in the market’

Acting as long-year partner for online games production & games technology frameworks to the only licensed Austrian (state-owned) real money gaming operator. We produce the first real money mobile casino games (J2ME) in the market
(2002) Xendex Poland, first mobile devices, first mobile games
Foundation of our development studio near Krakow, focused on mobile games production. Projects from Siemens and Austrian Erste Bank for mobile games/content portals. The first ever Java J2ME compatible mobile phones from Siemens / Nokia spread to the market. The first mobile games stores appear in Europe, such as sms.at or Telekom Austria A1
